Trunk or Treat

Friday I took Conway to the Dr.....ear infection, just as I had thought. He had been tugging at it for a couple days now, and had been acting super clingy. For that reason we decided against getting a babysitter, and going to the Applegate's Halloween party.....and going to my parents ward's (our old ward) Trunk or Treat instead (sorry Spencer and Tiff). They had the usual, "chili cook-off," nachos, corn dogs, home-made root beer, and plenty of baked goods and candy to make you sick! Tilley hated her costume...she couldn't grab her feet, which is her favorite thing to do lately, and of course she constantly tugged at the hat. I snuck it on when she fell asleep, I had to get at least one good pic! Quincy has changed her mind at least 3 times on what she wants to be for Halloween. It started with a "Princess," then went to a butterfly (like last year)....and she finally ended with being a Mermaid. I borrowed the mermaid costume, and she already had the dress-up Ariel shoes. I haven't had a chance to look for a red wig, and after asking a couple hair dressers about doing a temporary red dye in her hair.....we decided that since she really could careless about either, why should we!?!? I bought the cutest octopus costume for Conway last year....and he would NOT put it on. He wanted to be the same turtle that he was last year. I'm hoping that since he wore it for Trunk or Treat, he's got it out of his system...and by Halloween he'll be ready for the octopus (my fingers are crossed).
Spidy Boy! Parker has been dead set on being Spiderman ever since we started asking him what he wanted to be. It was a probably a month or so ago when we were walking in Costco, and they had just gotten their Halloween costumes. When we walked by, he begged me to get the Spiderman costume, which I thought would be way too big (fits perfect). I know they sell them everywhere, but this one has muscles that are puffed up, and I guess that's what sealed the deal. He doesn't care for the mask....but put it on for the pic.
They had these little play pools filled with saw dust (what a mess), and the kids had to dig for the hidden treasures. Conway kinda watched at first....then once Parker and Quincy started pulling out fun toys, he dug right in. I thought it was such a cute idea.
Quincy and Conway would do this game over and over. The prizes here were great, a cellophane bag filled w/ a 24 box of crayons and a little note pad to color on.....and lots of candy. No wonder. Of course they only got the "big prize" once, but they both loved "fishing."
Quincy was behind the little girl dressed as an ice cream cone....she was mesmerized-this was too good to be true! I was cracking up watching her, and thinking of what was going through her head. Finally when it was the little girls turn to fish, Quincy reached over and touched her....DANG IT, it's not real!
For some reason Quincy was REALLY adamant on them NOT painting on her face. She went twice to the "Face Painting" booth, but both times got a little picture on her hand. It's OK, her and Lei Lei had enough nacho cheese on their faces....you would have thought they got them painted!
Can I just say how much I hate when little gold fish are prizes, AND even more so when your kids win one. Parker was no where to be found the entire night.....that's because he never left the booth where you could win a goldfish. It was the game where you try and toss the ping pong ball into the bowl where the fish was....and if you made it, you won the fish. He played it for probably 45 min. straight.....and finally won. Lucky me! It is however, still alive.....and hasn't eaten since Friday. I know I'm so mean, but those things never last-even when you do feed them. And yes, we did have to go over what happens when they die, and how we're "not sad"....and that all drains lead to the ocean. Look how proud he is!
It was a great night, and fun to see all our old friends. I grew up in this ward from '96 till 2000, when I moved out....and then Parker and I moved back in 2.5 years ago, for 2 years. My Mom, Dad, Brothers, Sister and BIL, Grandma, Aunt, Uncles and Cousins are all in this ward, so we usually go to all their ward parties. I do miss it, but love our new ward.
