big cottonwood canyon

big cottonwood canyon is gorgeous. we've been here a couple times, but once it was covered in snow, and the other time we were with people who had dogs. dogs are prohibited. at the mouth of big cottonwood canyon is where the water treatment plant is located. 24% of our drinking water comes from silver lake and the flowing water, from the melting snow. parker was dying at how fast the river was flowing. it had covered parts of paths, and was right up next to the road at some parts as well. the drive was amazing, much like most of our canyon drives. and then there were moose. parker said, "we could turn around and go home now, and i'd be happy." we pulled over and took pictures, and just stared at them. this was his first time, and mine, to ever see moose. they look so far away in the pictures, but they were really close. just off the road, in the meadow. there was a path down by them, covered in water. i said, "darn, we could have walked right up to them!" to which parker said, "they would kill you." well, ok. i don't know much about animals i guess. we met brett and jennilyn at their family cabin 8 miles into big cottonwood canyon. it's on a little private road, and is totally secluded. we made chili cheese dogs, and had sides. then roasted marshmallows. i keep thinking this meal will get old to the kids, but it hasn't yet. thank goodness...i have a freezer full of hot dogs! my kids are pyro's, they could have a fire every night. their 3 kids are the same ages as our kids, so we always have lots of crazy fun when we are together. the boys had a sleep-over at the cabin with the wrights, and parker and i, and the girls drove home, to sleep in our own beds. it's nice that it's only 15 minutes away from home. we hope to go again, for a weekend!
